Christmas is such a special time to have coordinating sibling outfits! I tend to prefer coordinated outfits rather than matching outfits. I believe it is more pleasing and intriguing in portraits and greeting cards! The inspiration for this sister set is warm white winter tones (or ivory-ish, if you're technical) and holly. Garnet red is one of the most rich and beautiful colors to accent a warm-white toned outfit. It just absolutely pops!

One thing I have a love-hate relationship with is monogramming. On one hand, it adds a sweet and personal touch to any item, garment or accessory. But on the other hand... monogramming excludes that piece from ever being made a hand-me-down... and the heirloom world is all about hand-me-downs and generational keepsakes. I suppose the one solution is to give your children matching initials!

In this case, I would say a monogram was a great way to break up the large bodice.

The bigger dress in the sister set was inspired by Victorian lace collars. The lace needed to be the big talker and so a drop-waist yoke was best so that the lace did not "eat-up" the shape of the dress. and those flutters over the long sleeves! Very Victorian.

For the little sister gown, I wanted to tangent away from the Victorian flare (still nods to it in the BIG ruffles) and lean more to a classic smocked dress look. The hand embroidered holly over the smocking with that gorgeous garnet red connected the two in a non-identical, but sisterly way! I can't wait to see them worn together for Christmas!
